Run & Help Cancer Warriors Foundation Run 2011

My Running-buds : )

Last Sept 18 like what I've mentioned on my previous post, we've signed up for the Run & Help - Cancer Warriors Foundation Run 2011 at  the Piazza Mckinley Hills Taguig City. It was my 6th run and my 5th in the 10K category for this year. My chip time is at 1 hr and 6 mins plus and I finished 10th in my category (I know, I shouldn't get too cocky because there were fewer participants compared to other races - AXN, Cleft Run which also transpired on that same day). The route was extraordinary for a road-running. It had many uphill and downhill turns but it was fun.

Run for a REAL Cause

This coming Sunday (Sept 18, 2011) 5 of my peers and myself will be joining the Run and Help - Run for Cancer Warriors Foundation at the Piazza, Mckinley Hill Village Fort Bonifacio. The race has 3 categories - 3K, 5K and 10K. I was told that the route will be a bit more challenging than the regular BGC routes because the surface goes uphill/downhill. You may visit Runnersrunner for further info.

Event Discription: To give runners a truly fun and challenging run, the event has one of the best Marathon organizers in the Philippines - Mar Sports, the people behind the annual Bull Run of the Philippine Stock Exchange and Solar Entertainment Corporation’s Earth Run. Registration Fee is at P550.00 for all 3 distance categories. Each runner gets a drifit shirt, race bib and race details upon registration.

The said run will be held on the same exact day and time as the Miles for Smiles 2011 ‘Run for Cleft Care’ which is scheduled to be held at the Bonifacio Global City (BGC).

This event is presented by Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation Philippines, Inc. (NCFPI), the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines (TECO) and Smile Train to raise public awareness that “bingot” or cleft and other craniofacial conditions are treatable and that free comprehensive care is available. - PinoyFitness.com

UNILAB - Run United 2 (RUNRIO)

My runningmates - (left to right)  Derek, Joseph, Boss Don, Renan, Shy, Shane, Vivian, Boss Drew & yours truly :)
Recently I've joined another 10k Run organized by my favorite race-organizer, RUNRIO. It was the leg 2 of the UNILAB Run United happened last Aug 21, 2011 again at the Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City. There were 10 of us that signed up on this event out of 14,000 other participants.
It's really mind-boggling how Runrio can organize this race with that huge number of runners not to mention in different race categories starting from 500m (for kids), 3K, 5K, 10K up to 21K.
And as expected just like any other Runrio events, the race went very smoothly (at least in my opinion) - the hydration tents, race marshalls, traffic flow, banana and foam stations (for 21K), loot bags claiming stations, giveaways, finishers' kits, medals and shirts were all well-supplied and well-distributed.
I finished the race at 1:16:03 as you can see on the image below which I got from http://results.bazumedia.com/event/results/event/ru22011

I cant wait to sign up for the UNILAB - Run United 3, coming this November 2011. Hope to see you there!

NBA Fit Run 2011 - RUNRIO (at BGC)

So here's my most favorite singlet so far... :)
NBA Fit 2011 Singlet
The NBA Fit Run 2011 was primarily sponsored by Air21. Held last Aug 7 at Highstreet, Bonifacio Global City. The event had pushed through even though it rained cats and dogs earlier that morning that I almost convinced myself not to run because it was really tempting to just stay in bed. But since I got really addicted I thought "sayang naman.."
So far, that was the most challenging run I've ever had. The experience was like a torture, the kind of thing wherein towards the end of the race you kind of begin to wonder why you have to do it to yourself (LOL). To give you a background of that experience, the streets were all slippery, I was afraid that I might slip and get an injury. The wind was strong it was like it was stopping me from running, not to mention it was also drizzling all throughout, my running shoes got wet in the inside and I started out the race really late. The gunstart for the 10K category was at 5:20AM and I started my own gunstart at 5:56AM. What an experience! The silver lining was that I wasn't the only one who was late. There were 5 of us that signed up and all of us began the race at our own time (lol).

So after the race, again, we claimed our loot bags and we saw  Erik Spoelstra - the coach of Miami Heat if I'm not mistaken, sorry not much of a basketball fan. If it's about lawn tennis though, you can ask me anything ")

Here's us, my boss took this pic. See the loot bag Joseph (left) was holding, well, it wasn't that good!

Rexona Run 2011 - A RUNRIO Series

Joseph (left) & Andrew - my awesome Boss (right)
Exactly two weeks after the Yamaha Run for Heroes, my co-workers/ friends and I had signed up for the Rexona Run 2011. It  was held last July 24, 2011 near the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) .
It came as an impulse when I urged the others to join this run. At first we were all reluctant to join because the venue was not at BGC but we figured what the heck, why dont we try a different 10K route this time.

Again we joined the 10K category which made it my 3rd run, second 10K (because my first run was just a 5K). Only the 3 of us joined the event which was surprisingly still fun even there were just a few of us this time.
I remember when we saw the released route at the RUNRIO site, we were a bit disappointed because it looked so tedious, the route pretty much just passed along Roxas Boulevard which was just one straight direction with fewer turns unlike the usual BGC routes.
And just like any other Runrio Series, thousands had joined the Rexona Run 2011 and though there were many participants, the event was still very well-organized. Runrio and its sponsors had provided well-stocked hydration tents, sprinklers stations (as an alternative for foam stations), medical stations and accurate check points with the use of their newly launched Timing Chips in replacement for D-Tags. The loot bags were full of useful giveaways too like deodorants, shampoos, toothpastes, canned goods etc.But I guess the content of those loot bags depends with the sponsors.

And since I'm just an average runner I finished the race at 1:14:08, that was actually a 6-minute improvement from my Yamaha 10K run. I'm thankful for that improvement but I'm still aiming for more significant progress in my next 10/ 21Ks.

This is my overall standing in the race, I got this from the RUNRIO site courtesy of RunPix ;) - Please click on the image to zoom in.

YAMAHA Run for Heroes 2011 (BGC)

After a few months of wandering in nothingness (lol), I finally got bored. I've realized that my workout routines were not as intense as they were during my first few months of trying to lose weight. So I checked online and found out from RUNRIO - the YAMAHA Run for Heroes 2011.

Just like the NATGEO Run 2011, this event was also held at the Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City last July 3.  But this time, my friends (workmates) and I had decided to join the 10K category.

We've done some trainings before this event, we ran/jogged a lot, run the stairs (to develop endurance) and monitor our food intake. Yeah, we actually made a great deal of preparation before joining the 10K. With all humility, we were not all born athletes (sorry to say my dear friends) but we have to be truthful to ourselves and learn to accept that fact to prevent from hurting ourselves physically.

Anyway, the registration fee for the 10K race costs around PHP 600. The loot bags that were given after the race were not so bad at all. There were also certificates that were distributed to the finishers, but I think even the non-finishers were able to get one.(lol)

I finished the race at 1 hour 28 minutes and 36 secs. (1:28:36). Most of my guy workmates had finished ahead of me but I believe that the important thing is that even if we had different finish time - we all managed to have fun!
There were seven of us who joined this event, myself was not included in this picture.

It got really addicting after the Yamaha Run, so right now, we're totally eyeing to join half-marathon events (21K) hopefully within the next couple of months. We still need more practice though, we don't want to develop any injuries by forcing ourselves to jump right in the long runs.

Chao! See you in my next post!

NATGEO Earth Day Run 2011 - April 10 (Bonifacio Global City)

I was so psyched when I joined my first run. My co-workers and I signed up for the NATGEO Earth day Run 2011 last April 10. Some of us were in the 5K category and some joined in the 3K cat. It was an awesome experience and was really challenging. I say it was challenging because it had been a long time since I ran that far and it was our first time to join a fun run. Thousands of people participated in the said event and it's a bit comforting to know that people from different walks of life (young, old, slim, chubby, athletes, non-athletes) were able to join.

My friend in the picture below didn't look he was having a great time, did he? (LOL)

Anyway, thank goodness I was able to finish the race and I'm proud to say that slow as I was (but in a consistent pace) I reached the finish line at around 39 minutes plus.
And yes! I brought my camera to capture the time (amongst other things) while running. (LOL)

After the race we got to gather around an open area where the sponsors had set up their booths. And we hang-out there for a bit.
It was really fun and that's how my friends and I became addicted to Running.
I caught this on my cam - a candid picture of stranger, showing exhaustion after the race. I just thought it's really funny :)
